He's At It Again.....And Again
Only a few days to go before we're due to take the car to Jersey for the Jersey MGOC Spring Rally and I still haven't finished painting. This is largely due to being messed about by Car Colour Services Ltd in Mawney Road Romford, they claimed to be able to match the paint on my car properly and that it would take a week to get the paint formula, needless to say it took longer than that. Three weeks in fact. Now I'm fast running out of time. Machine Mart supplied all of the equipment I needed, compressor, spray gun etc and I'd built myself a temporary spray booth using a B&Q Gazebo and large plastic dust sheets, all I needed now was the paint!
In the end Car Colour Services failed to get the formula for the paint, in cellulose, in time so I was forced to go with two pack paint. They could have supplied me with two pack three weeks earlier but they insisted cellulose would be better for me, but all that did was to waste my time. Here's the car after I'd sprayed the front wings, bonnet and scuttle but before it had been polished, at this point the match didn't look too bad.
But, as you can see here, it wasn't even close, it's far too "yellow". I was in a quandary now, with hardly any time left to re-paint the car I was stuck with a car with one half a different colour to the rest. I returned to Car Colour Services the following Saturday morning to see if they could help, they couldn't. They said they could match the paint using a spectrometer but that would take another two weeks, I only had four days! I returned home somewhat dispirited, my only option was to continue to polish up the new paint, re-fit all the parts I'd removed and take the car as it was. Not exactly what I had planned! I'd got down to Car Colour Services early so I was back home by 9am, I sat down at the PC with a welcome cup of coffee in order to see if I could come up with a solution, and this is what happened next.....
