Jersey Here We Come...
Having got the ZR home Tuesday night I didn't have an awful lot of time to prepare the car for the trip to Jersey. I spent most of Wednesday washing & polishing it, and generally checking it over, plus adding the Jersey Silver Jubilee rally plaque to the front of the car. I cable tied the plaque to the grille below the number plate and kept my fingers crossed it didn't cause the car to overheat, I needn't have worried, it didn't. We had decided to stay overnight in Weymouth as we had an 8am crossing (7am check in) and I really didn't fancy making the 180 mile drive down there that early in the morning. We eventually left home at 8pm and arrived at Weymouth at pretty close to midnight, oh well, at least we got 6 and a half hours sleep.
This was the scene the next morning, MG's as far as you could see. It would seem every other MG owner had the same idea.
Here we are on the ferry with 59 other MG's, we felt slightly out of place among the classic MG's and I started to wish I'd managed to get the B ready in time. However, there were plenty of modern MG's attending the rally, and quite a few non MG's, including a Honda Civic, so it wasn't a problem in the end.
On our arrival in Jersey (after a VERY bumpy crossing!) we were assembled on one floor of an underground car park and issued with our "Rally Packs" full of goodies and useful information. It was also a chance to meet and chat with some of the other owners on the rally, including one chap who had attended every one of the previous 24, and all in the same car. Then it was off to find our hotel.
The Norfolk Lodge Hotel was where we were staying. It was a nice enough hotel but it seemed to be a Mecca for OAP coach tours so we felt like teenagers at times! You'll notice the sun is shining, unfortunately it was one of the few times we did see any sun although it didn't detract from the enjoyment of our stay.
