Jersey Here We Come...The Road Run.
Its Bank Holiday Monday and it's cold.... and wet.... and windy, all in all not a good day for the road run. This was designed as a Treasure Hunt and Tulip Road Run combined, not good as I'm not that brilliant at either! The run started at The Jersey Woolen Mills (above), this was originally a nightclub in the 1960's and was, then, called the "Chateau Plaisir". Apparently it still looks the same from the outside but it is now a wool centre. We were served coffee & croissants before the start which was nice. The run finished back here later in the day.
Looking for clues. Treasure Hunt's aren't my favourite type of run so I took pictures while my wife went searching for answers, in the end we only got about 75% of them, not much chance of winning it then!
"Which way mate?" Nigel in his B asks directions (so much for map reading) while Dave, in his MGC with a V8 engine, tries to keep warm behind. We're not the only ones who can't read a Tulip map then?

Getting lost wasn't such a bad thing, not with views like this. Eventually we got back to the Woolen Mills and by that time it was raining steadily, typical Bank Holiday really. Tea and sandwiches were served, prizes awarded (not to us!) goodbyes were said and that was it, the Jersey MGOC Silver Jubilee Spring Rally was over. Some of the guys were heading back to England that night but we had another day on the island. Just as well as we heard the next day that the ferry crossing to Weymouth on the Bank Holiday night was VERY rough indeed, glad we weren't on that one.
Tuesday 8th, we spent the day sight seeing, the weather was good in the morning but deteriorated later in the day. We took a drive around the whole of the island, even taking it slowly it only took a few hours. Here we are late in the day outside the Royal Jersey Golf Club and the statue of Harry Vardon (inventor of the Vardon grip and winner of The Open a record six times) who was born on the island and a member of the club, apparently. And that was it, back to the docks by 6pm, 7pm crossing back to good old England (very choppy AGAIN!) and home by 2am. It was a well organised Rally by the Jersey MGOC, plenty of events but also plenty of time to yourself to do the tourist thing, a nice combination. Looking forward to next year already, just hope we get better weather! Now it's back to reality and repairing the B.
